Sight Of Sound 2017
Sight of Sound is a mesmerising and dynamic visual representation of sound demonstrating the natural phenomenon of Cymatics. Sight of Sound is live art at the intersection of science, visual art, projections and improvised music. The performance is always a unique and unpredictable event that unfolds with each showing. On a low table are 3 beautifully lit dishes, each holding different metallic fluids. These fluids vibrate in response to live improvised music and sound producing a remarkable array of stunning and beguiling images. Cameras positioned just above these dishes are mixed live and projected onto a scrim in front of the artists, who appear and fade from sight as the lighting states change. The live music by improvising musicians Michael Havir and Adam Simmons, consisting of acoustic instruments and electronics, builds a narrative arc thats is mirrored in the extraordinary projections by award winning visual artist David Murphy.
"Everything owes its existence solely and completely to sound. Sound is the factor which holds it together. Sound is the basis for form and shape. Into the great voids of space came a sound and matter took shape." (Hans Jenny, Scientist and Cymatic pioneer)
